Fear of Networking Events

Fear of Networking Events?   Heck Yes !!!!  What do you say to a stranger?

How do you START & then END the conversation to move along & meet others?

Here’s a 3-part simple structure.

Just Think 3 E’s.

KNOW YOUR:

1) ENTRY Line

2) ELEVATOR Pitch

3) EXIT Line

Below are some examples of lines you could try.

PS I am not a pro at this --- so I will push myself to practice as well.

Entry Lines:

  • “Hi, I don’t think we’ve met yet—I’m Carolyn Novick. Mind if I join you?”

  • “Hi there, I’m making my way around & wanted to introduce myself—I'm Carolyn Novick”

  • “Hi, I couldn’t help but overhear a bit—mind if I join the conversation?”

Elevator Pitch:

·       Pending the group or where the conversation is at, be prepared with your SHORT “Elevator Pitch” (what you do, share something of interest related to your objective for the event or your career)

Exit Lines:

·       It’s been a pleasure chatting with you. I’m going to make the rounds & connect with a few others, but I hope you enjoy the rest of the event!"

·       "I’ve really enjoyed our conversation. I’m going to try to catch up with a few more folks, but I hope you enjoy the rest of the event!"

·       "Thank you for the great conversation. I’m going to mingle a bit more, but I hope we cross paths again — enjoy the rest of the event!"

hope that helps.
